We're probably all familiar with the story of Anne Frank, the Dutch teenager whose wartime diaries continue to have an impact on each new generation, but what about the people who tried to keep her and her family safe from the Nazis by helping them hide away from the world? The name of Miep Gies and her husband Jan are far less well known, but perhaps that will change after this powerful new drama begins. Once again, the supposedly happily married Dan Gallagher (Jackson) gives in to temptation when his wife and daughter are away by succumbing to the charms of Alex Forrest (Caplan), little realising what will ensue when he tries to end the relationship. Nevertheless, there's a lot of interest in this six-part revamp of the erotic psychological thriller. It's actually a great film that stands the test of time, and you can't help but feel that Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan, in taking over roles so brilliantly played by Michael Douglas and Glenn Close, are on a hiding to nothing. In 1987, director Adrian Lyne's portrait of an extra-marital affair and its devastating aftermath caused controversy due to its raunchy scenes, but also became a massive hit.
